The Arizona Institute for Breast Health is proud to announce a unique opportunity for the Valley to honor all those touched by breast cancer. From August 1st through October 31st, individuals will have the opportunity to sponsor pink light bulbs for $25 each in recognition of those affected by breast cancer.
The pink lights will be placed on the Canal Bridge, which links the Scottsdale Waterfront to the Southbridge District in downtown Scottsdale and will be illuminated on October 1st at the annual lighting ceremony, The Pink Light District . These Pink Honor Lights will glow throughout October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Proceeds generated from this initiative will benefit the Arizona Institute for Breast Health, a local non-profit organization that provides a second opinion for treatment options to women that have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer, completely free of charge. These second opinions are offered through a multi-disciplinary panel of Breast Cancer Specialists and each patient that is seen through the program is supported and lovingly guided by a patient advocate, a breast cancer survivor herself. To sponsor your lights, please visit their web site,

With close to 150 parade entries this year, this is an event to be experienced. As noted below, there is not much information available on 2010 events.
Tickets for 2010 are not on sale yet, but should be on sale for advance purchase by the end of November. Check the site often for the most current information. If you are too anxious to wait, you can send an email to
Cars being offered up can also be custom-made and can go for what seem like insane amounts of money. The paperwork and background required for such bidders seems to be extensive, but if they are willing to pay those high prices to have the car, then in the end it may be worth it. To each there own as the saying goes. The appeal for “regular” folks is watching people who have that money bid on the different vehicles being offered on the auction block.
In the past, there have been Corvettes, race cars, motorcycles, even a car or two that was used in a Hollywood film. You may have noticed that I included motorcycles, which just goes to show that not all vehicles being offered necessarily fit into the “classic car” category.
Barrett-Jackson is held at WestWorld in Scottsdale. The auction is also held in other cities throughout the year, including Las Vegas. For more information visit:
It also features an outdoor sculpture garden housing James Turrell’s Knight Rise, one of the renowned artist’s few public skyspaces, and Scrim Wall, a monumental curtain of prismatic glass by James Carpenter Design Associates.
Through October 1st, the museum features an exhibit celebrating its tenth anniversary. This exhibit may not be on display any more, as the website wasn’t very clear on when and where to view this.
Also displayed is art created by participating high school students who were involved in SMoCA’s Visions program. It’s great for teens to have a program to participate in that allows them to express their creativity through art as well as something to do if their parents aren’t home.
Admission to the museum is free on Thursdays. There are other art opportunities in Scottsdale if contemporary art isn’t your thing. You can visit
