Situated beneath the red buttes of Papago Park, the Desert Botanical Garden is home to one of the world’s finest collections of desert plants. The Garden boasts more than 50 acres of breathtaking outdoor exhibits, featuring 139 rare, threatened and endangered plant species from around the world and is one of only 44 botanical gardens accredited by the American Association of Museums. Each year, 250,000 visitors experience the natural beauty of the Desert Botanical Garden and the special events it hosts throughout the calendar year.

Experience a prehistoric Hohokam Indian ruin. Outdoors you can explore a 2/3 mile (1km) interpretive trail featuring the archaeological site and walk through the Hohokam Houses exhibit with reconstructed homes. Located in Scottsdale’s popular Old Town district, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) features the most compelling modern and contemporary art, architecture and design from around the globe. Designed by award-winning architect Will Bruder, SMoCA’s minimalist building (an ingenious renovation of a former movie theater) includes a public “skyspace” by the acclaimed artist James Turrell (one of only a handful in the world), where visitors can experience the ever-changing light of the desert sky. SMoCA also presents a wide variety of changing exhibitions, educational programs and special events for adults and families.
West Valley Art Museum

West Valley Art Museum was established in 1976 as a satellite museum of the Phoenix Art Museum. In 1980 the Museum was funded and built entirely by Sun City retirees and became a mortgage free, 17,000 square foot building located on five acres. The Museum’s permanent collection contains over 4000 items from more than 90 countries with a key focus on ethnic dress, textiles and ethnographic arts.
The Museum has a very strong collection of fine art prints from ancient and contemporary Asian block prints, to contemporary American artists like Peter Max, Andy Wahrol, Alexander Calder, and Arthur Secunda among others.

Music for the soul. Surprisingly diverse. Consistently entertaining. The mission of the Arizona Arts Chorale is to entertain and inspire audiences of all ages and musical tastes through the wonders of choral singing. A professional group of volunteer singers, the Chorale delivers exceptional quality in both programming and vocal performances of its 50 voices strong, led by Founding Artistic Director Carolyn Eynon. The Chorale has performed with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Carnegie Hall in New York, and many private corporate and social events throughout Arizona. Educational outreach is one of the Chorale’s priorities, including sponsoring music scholarships for high school students.

Arizona Musicfest presents the premier winter music festival in the Southwest. Every year, from early February to mid-March, Musicfest brings “Carnegie Hall quality right to your backyard.” Under Artistic Director Robert Moody, four weeks of the finest music begins Wednesday, February 6, 2008 and ends 13 concerts later on Sunday, March 2. The festival features Classical, Broadway, Jazz and Opera with exciting guest artists and the Musicfest Festival Orchestra under Maestro Moody’s baton. The Phoenix Chamber Music Society is celebrating its 48th season with a series of eight concerts at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts. The world’s greatest chamber musicians have appeared on our stage: the Guarneri, Tokyo, and Emerson Quartets and the Prague and Moscow Chamber Orchestras.
