If you want a taste of the Southwest, be sure to check out the Tamale Festival in Phoenix. Tamale makers from different parts of the state will offer their homemade tamales for you to enjoy and there will also be a community tasting where you can sample various family recipes in the Southwest. You can also buy some tamales to take home if you want. Don’t miss the Southwestern Latino arts and crafts that are displayed and for sale. There will also be entertainment and other cultural offerings!
This year’s 8th annual event will take place on December 13 and 14, 2009. The event is free to the public and is sponsored by Food City. Food City members will be on hand for interviews to offer directions on how to prepare tasty tamales. Local tamale-makers don’t want to miss the Tamale Contest on Sunday afternoon featuring top prizes like a refrigerator, stove, microwave, and gift cards from Food City. If you like tamales, various Mexican dishes and an array of interesting arts and crafts then this is a not miss event perfect to go with friends and family.
The Tamale Festival takes place at the Ceasar Chavez Plaza, 201 W. Washington Street, in downtown Phoenix. For more information on the Tamale Festival, you can view last year’s event flyer at https://www.myfoodcity.com/pdf/Final_2008_Tamale_Festival_Alert.2.pdf.
