Scottsdale Arizona and the Diamondbacks
Our home team, the Diamondbacks, play at Chase Field which has a retractable roof and a natural grass playing field. Oh how I love the smell of freshly mowed grass!
The warm Arizona weather attracts several major league teams for Cactus League spring training. A few of the teams playing in the valley are Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers, Oakland A’s, Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Angels, Seattle Mariners. The Chicago White Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies train in Tucson.
My favorite team is the Phoenix Suns! I love to go to dinner then head over to catch a game at the US Airways Center. It is an awesome stadium. Our own WNBA team the Phoenix Mercury also play in this stadium June through August. Arizona State university’s Sun Devils are a part of the Pac 10 Conference. There is never too much basketball for me!
The Arizona Cardinals play in the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. It was built in 2006 and seats 67,000. In 2007 the Fiesta Bowl was played here.
Some more entertaining sporting events and teams in and around Scottsdale are the Arizona Sahuaros soccer team, Horse racing at Turf Paradise, Greyhound racing at the Phoenix Greyhound Park, and plenty of professional golf tournaments.

Scottsdale is recognized as the world’s finest golf destination. Whether you are a professional or amateur golfer, every golfer wants to golf 365 days a year! More golf is about finding a city with the most of the big four, climate, quantity, quality and proximity. Scottsdale is all of these and more! We have nearly 200 outstanding courses in the area. No matter how committed you are to playing every course you probably can’t play all of them….
Now for the non golfing women with golf crazy men….we have spas!! There are a number of places to stay that have top notch courses and fabulous spas. Some of the best are the Boulder’s Resort, The Westin Kierland resort and spa, the Spa at Camelback Inn.
The Spa at Camelback Inn pampers and spoils beyond your wildest dreams! The have a Desert Honey Nectar Wrap that leaves you with skin of silk. When you are being spoiled, who cares how long he is out golfing??! The Golden Door Spa at the Boulders wraps you in ionized turquoise clay representing the Native American belief that turquoise is the color of positive energy, protection and self-confidence. I don’t know if this is so but I do know it feels fantastic! Ladies, I’m pretty sure that for every new course he finds, you can find a new spa or treatment!! Sounds like the perfect retirement to me!

Scottsdale has it all!
The home of the Phoenix Suns serves as a concert and sports venue. Downtown Phoenix is being transformed into a hub for business, sports and the arts. Downtown Phoenix includes the Herberger Theater which invites patrons in for a brown bag lunch and performances. This is an awesome way to expose the kids to the arts. The restaurants are outstanding and plentiful, my favorite for date night with my husband.
The new City Hall wraps around the Orpheum Theater. Built in 1929, the theater was once considered the most luxurious playhouse west of the Mississippi. An $11million project has restored this theater to its impressive grandeur. This is a must see!
Local museums include the Heard museum of native American cultures and art, Arizona Science Center with 350 hands on exhibits for all ages; State Capitol Museum which includes legislative chambers and governor’s office, Hall of Flame houses the world’s largest exhibit of firefighting equipment. There are far too many museums to remember.
Scottsdale is known nationally as an art center. We have over 110 art galleries, many of which participate in out Thursday night Art Walk. Many galleries serve refreshments and provide maps. More information is available through the Scottsdale Gallery Association.

Introduction to Scottsdale, Arizona
What’s not to love about Scottsdale? Scottsdale is where east meets west! We are centrally located. You can head west and in an easy drive, be at the beach or a day drive south be in Mexico for some shopping and night life. My favorite is to drive north through the scenic Arizona Mountains to Flagstaff for snow boarding and skiing at or… better yet, 8 hours to Colorado for some of the best snow conditions in the United States! Whether you are drawn to outdoor activity, theatre, night life or sporting venues, Scottsdale has it all. It’s like living in a big city with a small town feel. It seems no matter where I go, I run into someone I know.
Our outstanding weather makes Scottsdale the ideal location for year round activity. During the summer months, my family and I hit all of the concerts, museums and theatre. In the winter we can hike and snowboard, what other city boasts that? I am from the mid-west and I love to ski without first digging out my driveway and installing the snow chains!
